SPAM ON FORUM

hello,

im sorry if this thread is in wrong section, but idk where to put it!
moderators or whatever, do smth with bots on forum, its totally annoying when i come to work, make coffee, open forum and what? spam invasion!

dear mitsubishi,

we, the moderator team, do our best to handle the spam bots. we ban and removes ads like tens a day. if we ban few ips then there is few days less spam, but it comes back with even stronger power later.

unfortunately, we also learn/work/etc. and we cannot provide spam deletion during sleep time - and bots are most active at 2-5 am.

i understand everything, but i though u can set ban bot or speciall settings with login/reg?

 

the bot creator are very wise and uses numerous amounts of ips and they differ every day. especially they uses proxy so it's endless fight.

 

i would like to make a suggestion here. when i was playing dark age of camelot long ago, there were a group of players called "eyes and ears". they were regular players and not employees, but they were entrusted with special powers. why don't you make use of the free manpower of volunteers?

i am sure there is a way to get into an agreement with trusted individuals who could be given the power to remove spam and block a spam account from making more posts, until an actual employee has the opportunity to review the action and decide on the final forum ban. the agreement could include sanctions for people who abuse their power. i am often awake at "odd" times like very late at night or very early in the morning (depending on viewpoint) and see the new spamposts being made. i would have no problem with pressing some buttons and eliminating those spam accounts as a service for the community, and i believe i would not be the only one.

it's not that hard to get some better spam protection on forum, theres many ways that bots cant pass... or at least not without custom bot code. anyways the forum can use an upgrade also in graphics
