It's about l2, if you are resident from those countries you cannot play on NCWest, you have to play on Innova, simple as that, others have to play in their own region like countries around Russia

They decided to block these countries last year. It was a big fuss, I was playing at that time and many of my friends were blocked just like that. There were ddos attacks etc. Then they decided to allow players from these countries to continue playing but they removed support for them.

No I cannot. When I am trying to post on forum NC-Soft, the machine answer that I need to register the bloody account, when I am trying to register this account, the robot saying to me "Unauthorized". This is a frigging discrimination, I need to make a petition to the Human Rights Protecting International Organizations! :)
    ><, I don't know the reasons that forced NC Soft to do such crazy things, but at least the can left ability to post on forums for this regions. The list of blocked regions is looks like the sphere of influence of Soviet Union in Cold War :D Yeah.. :(. Omg, omg... What can I say for more.

Many of us thought it was for political reasons, especially as it was right after Trump was voted :D :D :D . But I think that the real reasons were financial and they just wanted to split customers between ncwest and innova. So it was a purely business decision in my opinion.

However, it did spoil the experience for many people who used to play there. Have you tried using a VPN to post in the forums? But be careful because I think Russia just voted a law that made VPN illegal :/ .... Make sure it is allowed in your country before using it.

As far as I know (writing it as a player, not as a mod in case there is any trouble) those countries are excluded from support and were subject of banning the IPs due to security and fair play reasons.

It is a fact that the majority of cheaters, botters and RMT traders are from Russia and / or from the CIS countries, this applies to most of online games (SEA region excluded, I don t have much info about them).

On NC servers they try to limit those activities by restricting the local residents' access to the servers. A simple security measure.

Interesting fact, that based on the User Agreement of Innova, the Russian (and CIS) players should not be able to play on Eu servers. (User Agreement 1.4 and 2.9).
I will not expand it further.

I think it was a huge mistake done by NC-Soft guys. They have lost a lot of moneys which is now drowning in the swamp of illegal trading. This money may directly flow to NC-Soft, avoiding, well let's say a very good and honest Company as Innova :). So the main motive to do it has not NC-Soft, but Innova itself .... Ah, don't matter at all :)

Banning whole countries is neither fair nor the real solution to combating cheaters and people who violate "fair play". Fairness rarely is a motive in the business world.

Let's not forget that the countries that were banned, now do play with Innova, and Innova doesn't seem to have any trouble at all, keeping botters outside its servers. If NCwest really wanted to clear the servers from cheaters, they surely had the technology to do it.

Through my 1 year of playing there, I witnessed total indifference and a support team of GMs with poor knowledge of English and/or very incompetent. It was clear that fixing the server botting and adena sellers situation was not a priority.

Banning a whole country just because it has many players that cheat is like killing the patient because he is dying. It makes no sense.

I still think the reasons were of purely business/financial nature.

Was it a huge mistake? Who knows. This game is not really that popular and potentially profitable anymore to be influenced by the opinions of thousands of players. It is an old game. In NCwest, the premium accounts were expensive, so fewer people had them, compared to Innova players. That means that probably most Russian players wouldn't be able to afford them. It seems logical that their greatest income would come from the US players. So banning countries like Russia would not result to great financial losses.

I wrote the chronicle of the blocked countries on the 15th of November 2016 as I was playing there. If anyone is curious to read: https://ankontini.com/blocked_countries_l2/
