arctus made his way through the forest of the dead that lay through giant trees and thick bracken. the trees were huge and menacing and the brambles scratched and clawed at him shredding his clothes to tatters. though it was daytime the sun barely filtered through the dense foliage. an eerie chill run down his spine. it was not some noise produced by the living like a crack of a branch, hooting or animal scampering. it was the deafening all-consuming quiet that made your heart freeze. it dawned upon him that he was completely alone. ‘it's just a forest of the dead, silly', he muttered and forced himself to continue.
a bright moon illuminated his trail as he approached the hag's lair. the witch's hat was a rickety wooden carcass, decrepit and sinister . he gingerly knocked on the door, a carved pumpkin above his head ringing a wicked laugh. when the door opened he was stunned to see not a hundred-year gnarled old woman but a ravishing beauty veiled and clad in black. a huge cauldron was boiling nearby.
- i know what led you here, arctus, she said smoothly, her melodious voice almost hypnotic.
arctus was astonished but unable to utter a word mesmerized by celine. she proceeded to throw a couple of mouse carcasses into the brewing greenish goo. an ominous smoke curled up in the air. for a second arctus managed to tear his eyes away and caught the witch's reflection in the cobwebbed mirror. he gasped. a hideous old woman smiled a yellowed rotten grin. he recoiled and nearly fell tripping over a large parcel now sitting in front of him. celine has miraculously disappeared. he pulled the lid and to his amazement found a cute agathion amid a pile of magical items.
