i'm not sure if i'm in the right section with this thread, admins feel free to move this to right section if this is not.

what kinda rig are yu playing with? average fps? how playable do you feel it? happy?

    mine:
    - intel i3 2100 (3,1ghz 2 cores ht-off)
    - nvidia gts250 1gb
    - 2x4gb ddr3 1600mhz cl9
    - wd10ears 1tb 5400rpm hdd

fps while grinding is quite steady 100 at wastelands, but in town my rig is really laggy. i guess primeval island, sieges etc won't be playable atm. not sure if im running out of memory either on whole system or graphics card? or maybe processor mhz is my bottle neck? don't think lineage is too well multithreaded, eh? i'm planning to upgrade to 2500k or 2600k, 16gb mem and maybe 6950 / 7870 / 7950 with 2gb memory. anyone has some hard evidence how lineage scales with sli and cfx setups? both could be considerable but im not sure if its supported in l2. i remember tho that one guys played c3 or c4 with nvidia 8800 ultra sli, bu im not 100% sure on that. :/

get a ssd. graphic cards wont change ur fps much on l2, the one you have is more than good. you would gain more from a better cpu

~150 when leveling, ~100 in tows. 4.5ghz, 8gb ram, and ssd. no lag at all, ssd does most important stuff in l2, huge diffrend between ssd and hdd. as someone told l2 only using ~2gb rams, and one core of cpu and disk drive, so most important stuff is cpu ghz and disk drive, ram won`t change anything

tbh i don't even bother reading fps on a game like l2. i don't have an ssd and game runs fairly smooth to me. i'd say turn off shadows, aa and any shaders. gives a big boost. all i get is those spikes from the loadings (hdd speeds ftw..)

edit: also having view distance higher than average doesn't really make a difference.

you can also just ignore what i just said and play at max settings just for the "feel" of it, ie, having a larger e-peen.

thanks for the info, i'll start to look on the ssd. sandforce ****s so maybe crucial m4 or samsung 830. we'll see. processor is gonna get swapped anyway to 2500k/2600k 5ghz+ (watercooled). not sure about graphics yet, maybe amd 6950/7870 or smthing like that. eyefinity 2.0 with custom resolutions feels promising (15" 1024*768 portrait | 23" 1920x1080 landscape | 15" 1024*768 portrait) but its gonna be published with 12.2 catalyst drivers and not sure yet if it's going to work with older cards than hd7000.

ssd drive is solution for your pc because all data's from l2 is taken from hdd.i have 5400rpm too but it was too slow, so i buyed ssd drive and now is big different.teleport are instant, not waste time for teleport and fps are more stable, believe me.

to truly measure best pc config for lineage 2 we need to compare different configs with same or similiar settings in-game.

    about ssd:
ssd greatly improves l2 performance by decreasing 'loading stuttering' and decrease loading time.
you port faster and you are faster ready to do your things.
on normal hdd you have long 'black screen' while teleporting and after that you still have decreased ammount of fps for period of time.

with ssd drive you can port to aden instantly and get your 40 fps at start.
but ssd will not improve your standard fps rate. it gives you boosts with loading things, but after all this work is done it doesnt change much.

if i am not mistaken l2 is mostly cpu dependant
single core speed, l2 cant utilize correctly more than one core.
yes it supports 2 cores since like 3 years (?) but not utilize it fully.

    my config:

    windows 7 ultimate 64

    cpu: intel i5 650 3.2ghz oc'd @ 3.84 ghz per core (dual core)
    ram: 8gb 1600 mhz cl9
gpu: radeon 6950 reflashed to: radeon 6970 2gb memory
    mobo: asus p7p55 lx
    psu: ocz 600
drive: ocz 60 gb agility 2

    using 2 lcd's

i am kinda happy, but i feel like l2 could perform better when i hear stories about playing sieges in max details without problems.

"lag" have nothing to do with your cpu gpu ram and settings :pp

"lag" is related with connection speed/bandwidth. packet loss and delay/ping. overall quality
this discussion is about fps rate (frames per second)

p.s. my last post ninja edited
