In this experiment, XP penalty and the amount of drop from the Raid Boss are going to be estimated in the situations when the character’s level is higher than the one of the monsters. Attacker: 98-107 lvl Yul Sagittarius Target: 98 lvl Raid Boss Dark Messenger Afjak In the first part of the experiment, Yul Sagittarius was killing 98 lvl Raid Boss Dark Messenger Afjak. The test was made at different levels of the attacker. The results are stated below: The second part of this experiment shows the items that can be dropped from the monster if the level of the attacker is not higher than 3 levels in comparison with the one of the raid boss. Summary: As it can be seen from the results, if the level difference between the character and raid boss is not bigger than 3, there is no drop penalty. If the difference is bigger, the penalty becomes around 20% per level.
Small correction recommended in the conclusion: No drop penalty if difference is not greater than 2. Difference is equal to 3 or greater the drop is reduced.
hm... so one of my dd's (102 lvl) was super unlucky when 2 or 3 times in a row from balok he dropped only giant codex green book, while 101 or lower dd's get b:ewr(ear), rune stone, giant codex (usually normal one, sometimes mastery), appearance stone and sometimes r99 craft pack...
Just came across this topic, so late answer : no, it was normal that you got low drops. Balok 99, your DD 102, and the experiment shows that you can be at lvl of the boss, or lvl +1 or +2, but not higher. You're +3, so drops reduced.
i know about this. but 2 or 3 times in a row being so unlucky in drops while another dd 104lvl wynn + titan 99 killed balok in <15 seconds and there was drops bewr rune and appearance stone... and would be nice if someone re-make this test from juji's lab this still working or to get better drops don't even touch raids with higher level chars?
What matters is an amount of dmg dealt by certain lvl in pt. Besides that is pure luck, even with drop runes u can get 0 drop as happend to me often.
In a pt, the lvl of the character having dealt the most dmg is what matter for drops. If you've a lvl 105 char and a lvl 60 dd, and that only the dd killed a lvl 60 mob (or at least he dealt 50+ %), then you'll have "optimal" drops (still RNG dependent) But hey, even when you've no penalty drops, RNG giveth and taketh
With that massive lvl diffrences in pt ,that lv 60 wont get any drop from a mob, unless 105lv is out of range.
