limitations of f2p model i think + license (client) agreement + system requirements + something that you don't know yet (not vm listed).
it's wrong to blame company in this case... but it's my opinion, not yours of course.
    i'm sorry that i can't help you.

graphics may be crude on vm, but it's still better than nothing at all, is it not ?
as a windows user, it would hurt me alot to be forced to install a linux dual boot and restart my comp every time i want to play a specific game...
of course it is to prevent people from dual boxing instead of paying. well, the premium account is mandatory anyways if you don't want to xp half as fast as others.

cash cow for the win ! (even better when you didn't have to pay devs to create the game)

it's not made to prevent people from dualboxing. it's made to make it more secure and prevent disassembling and cheating in general. ncwest l2.exe should albo be protected by themida but since you can patch the whole system/ dir and ditch gameguard there it can be easly avoided. l2 works like **** in general, running it using wine on linux or various vms won't help here so if you're up to serious gameplay, like sieges or mass pvps it won't be playable anyway. if you'd like to for setup a shop/craft, then it's a different case. to be honest, i'd like to have that working as well so my main linux server/desktop would have something else to do while i'm not at home ;-) still, hardly an innovas fault.

not sure if it's a "fault" but it is definitely innova's choice to be so restrictive
ncwest chose to go for a more standard protection, knowing very well that even the best protection can be circumvented.

multiboxing is the perfect example :
1box per ip will screw those who play with multiple players per house (and i know alot) but "cheaters" can use a proxy on second box
denying vms will screw those that use linux as main os (however weird that looks to me i know some who does) but "cheaters" can still use a second / old comp to dual box (no need for speed to set up a shop)
1 box per comp doesn't screw anyone but is pretty easy to bypass
allowing multibox adds a new challenge to the game and allows for multitasking skills of the player to kick in, yet allows regular players to play as they wish without being at a disadvantage.

i know (assumed) it's 1 box per pc, was just exploring the possible ways to prevent multiboxing

as to whether multiboxing is good or evil, i think it has been lengthly discussed on official forums

as if a gm could detect multiboxing ...
he can say if it's the same ip, yes
he can say if he acts like a box (following someone), yes
but when i go afk, i too follow someone in my party
but when i sell stuff in giran, i don't answer pms
