Air Stones

Whats the best/cheapest way to make airstones?

What to use and how much does it multiply

The important thing is that always use 3 items, because you get bonus then. I don't think there are combos effecting the air stone numbers. My theory is that the air stone value of the items are added together and it is multiplied by the 3 item bonus.
You can put an Elcyum Crystal in the middle, and then you will have some chance to double the value. So it might worth a try if you are combining a lot of stuff at once, but I don't know the chance for it, and I only tried it once, and I didn't get extra.
Most people make air stones from the junks they would sell to NPC. If I don't have 3 junks to combine I just fill the slots with single escape scrolls.
I used to calculate the cost of a single air stones from my combines, and the cheapest one was around 5k adena.

R Crystals. Ofc, its only worth it when the market price is around shop price (12.500).
